The service

Xion is an online matchmaking service for singles (1v1) and doubles (2v2) in Super Smash Bros. Melee (NTSC 1.02), each with a Ranked queue (your RP moves) and an Unranked one (it does not). Games are played in the Xion build of Dolphin, a modified Slippi Dolphin.

It is an unofficial fan project run by an individual. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, HAL Laboratory or the Slippi project. You bring your own copy of the game; Xion does not distribute it.

Your account and data

You log in with Discord. From Discord we receive and store your user id, username, display name and avatar. We also store the Slippi connect code you register and your game records: results, RP changes, who your partner and opponents were, and whether you left a game.

We use this to identify you when you log in, to show the leaderboard and game histories, to pick partners and opponents, and to investigate cheating. Your display name, connect code, rank and game history are visible to other users. We do not pass your data to third parties for any other purpose.

Replays

The client uploads a replay (.slp) of every game you play to the Xion servers, where it is stored. Replays are used to verify results, to look into disputes and to investigate cheating.

Stored replays may also be used as training data to improve Xion's AI players (below).

AI players

When few players are online, a game may include players controlled by an AI (Phillip). AI players take part as partners and opponents like anyone else.

Cookies and analytics

We use a session cookie to keep you logged in and a cookie to remember your language. There are no advertising cookies.

Your matchmaking region (Asia & Oceania, Americas, or Europe, Middle East & Africa) is worked out from your IP address at country level, using DB-IP's IP-to-Country Lite database (db-ip.com, CC BY 4.0). The address itself is not stored.

We use Google Analytics to measure how the site is used. Information such as the pages you view is sent to Google under Google's privacy policy.

Rules and suspensions

Cheating, modified clients, faking results, leaving games on purpose, harassing other players and abusing multiple accounts are not allowed.

Leaving a Ranked game costs twice the RP a loss would have. The third time in a season suspends your account. Other violations can also lead to a suspension without notice.

No warranty, changes and shutdown

Xion is free and provided as is. We do not guarantee that it works or that it keeps running, and we are not liable for any damage arising from its use.

The service and these terms may change without notice. The service may also shut down; if it does, the stored data is deleted.
